At the castle of Brundlund Slot we designed this permanent re-hanging of the collection of surrealist art from The Museum of Southern Jutland.

The castle was designed by Danish Classicist master C F Hansen in the merchant town Aabenraa. For the occasion, the spaces have been repainted in their original whites and greys.

Throughout the exhibition free-standing structures in aluminum and textile panels, augmenting the available wall space as well as creating zones and acting as protection against direct sunlight.

Letting natural light through the windows was important to the over-all spatial experience, even if this poses a challenge to certain works of art, especially those on paper. Means to achieve an acceptably low lux-value was carried out from room to room in collaboration with the museum conservators.

The show included works by Francisca Clausen (who was born in the town of Aabenraa), Vilhelm Bjerke Petersen, Sonja Ferlov Mancoba, Wilhelm Freddie, Fernand Léger and many others.

The aluminum system was also used for building custom display cases for showcasing books, photos, etc.

To sidestep from the extensive uses of cold materials, we also designed chairs, benches and stools in wood, inspired by a church pew designed by C F Hansen for Hørsholm Church.
